Friday Morning Follies: Champagne and Croquet

If anyone ever tries to tell you that Rice alums are just like everybody else, you can direct them to this 1982 Young Alumni event, an episode of such epic dorkiness it’s hard to imagine it happening anywhere else. At least anywhere else in Texas.

Note the classic champagne coupe in the last shot–much more glamorous, I think, than the flutes that are more commonly used these days.

  1. Grungy says:

KTRU played their croquet in Herman Brown.
I can only make a guess at one of the participants, but let’s see how others chime in.

    • Melissa Kean says:

Inside Herman Brown? Or next to Herman Brown?

    • Deborah Gronke Bennett (BSEE Hanszen 1982) says:

I only remember the picture at the end of the croquet, which is in the 1981 Campanile and my Facebook pictures. The picture was taken quite late at night and I remember having a bit to drink. I don’t remember the game at all.
I can’t identify anyone in Melissa’s pictures either.

  2. Grungy says:

    Inside.

  3. I remember the event, but couldn’t tell you who any of these folks are from these photos.

  4. All three of the ones front and center look vaguely familiar to me. Big help I know…

  5. Grungy says:

The woman in the white skirt in the top photo might be Kim Keany.
