Friday Follies: Cinzano, 1977

Zoom in and look up.

I suppose starting drinks on the roof deck again is totally out of the question:

    Is that Will Rice?

    • Mark Williamson says:

If you mean the first photo, that’s Cohen House.
If you mean the second photo, I’m amazed you found enough clues to locate it.

  2. Bob Toone (WRC 1967) says:

If that’s Will Rice (looks like it), then as seniors we had the 4th floor tower room, with the deck on the left of the picture. Good sunning, great for lobbing water balloons at passers-by.

    • Mark Williamson says:

The deck on the left in the picture is clearly on the third floor. Weren’t the tower room and deck on the fifth floor of WRC? I lived on the fourth floor just after you were there, and the tower room was above us.

      • Bob Toone (WRC 1967) says:

Yes Mark, I think you’re right. Grif Dix, Ralph Parks, Jay Bailey and I lived on the fourth floor. Rex Naden and others were on the fifth with the balcony….

  3. Don Johnson says:

The patio on the second floor of Cohen House was, at the time, available for lunch. You got to it by going through George’s Tavern. About four tables were out there. To eat outside, you CERTAINLY needed umbrellas for shade. I ate out there several times; pretty nice. First come; first serve. No reservations required.

The bonus photos shows high-voltage suspension insulators of what appear to be ANSI Class 52-6 (http://www.suspensioninsulator.com/ansi-52/ANSI-52-6-disc-suspension-insulator.html).

I suspect it would have been taken by near the northside power plant, possibly at the metal lattice shown in this Google Streetview SW of the FE&P Building (https://goo.gl/maps/Daq7x). There didn’t appear to be any large lattice complex at the South Plant, but there might be one out of Google’s view, however, say at Rice Stadium to power the lights)

    • Melissa Kean says:

Correct! As far as I know this is the only large lattice on campus. But I’ll be over at Rice today wandering around and taking pictures and I’ll keep my eyes open.

  5. Rachel Kimbro says:

I have forwarded this to Speaker Weston to see if we can add this to our 2015-2016 Senate platform! 😉 -Deputy Speaker Kimbro
