Friday Follies: Power Nap

All I can say is that this guy must have been exhausted. That looks like the most uncomfortable place to sleep! The floor probably would have been better.

It’s undated. I’m guessing ’70s based on his hair but I really have no idea.

Note: Friends, I too am weary from my labors. I’m off for vacation for the next week and a half. I’m not planning on posting while I’m gone but a betting man would likely be safe wagering that I will, at least from time to time.

Bonus: I have no recollection of this photo being taken but clearly I’m trying to get Charlie Szalkowski straightened out. Not sure if I was successful.

  1. The plaid pants pretty much guarantee early 70’s.

That couch doesn’t really look that uncountable to me. I’ve slept on much worse. But sleeping that close a used ashtray? Yuck!

I like the chair pulled to the end of the couch in a failed experiment as a pillow.

Rice student motto: Always eat and sleep whenever you get a chance because you never know when your next chance will be. That would have been way more comfortable than the floor. And he had probably created the ashtray contents so wouldn’t have been concerned about them. We all forget how ubiquitous smoking was in the ’70s and ’80s.

  5. Deborah Gronke Bennett BSEE Hanszen 1982 says:

I am again reminded of the picture of Philip Walters sleeping on a couch in the RMC ballroom, with the sign noting “Rice Student after a long week”. It appeared in the 1976-77 Campanile, I believe. I am too far from my yearbooks to scan it in and post it.
