Slats

I got home much later than usual tonight so I don’t have the energy to say very much but I do promise that I’ve got a couple of really exciting things coming tomorrow and the day after. For right now, though, all I have is this:

sltudents in fondren through window slats nd057

I originally scanned it only because I liked the way it looks but it dawned on me recently that I don’t know where those blinds could have been. It’s undated so it might be that it was taken before the back wing was added on Fondren but I really don’t know.

The shelves appear to be full of periodicals.

  2. Did Fondren have louvered dividers on the first floor? There was a really pierced wooden panel next to the stairs, I think outside the Kyle Morrow Room.

When I was there (75-81), periodicals were at the front of the library, on the college side, first floor. So this could be a shot through a first floor window.

  3. That would be “really cool pierced divider”. It was solid wood with channels cut at two angles. Where they crossed, there was an opening.

There were shelves like that in the periodical room. What I’m trying to remember is whether or not there were similar shelves in the science reading room on the south side of the main lobby.

Does anyone remember blinds on the windows of the north wall? I think that is the direction that works with the interior view.

I’m almost positive that is a shot outside the Reserve Room of Fondren Library, right by the main entrance. When I was there from 1972 to 1976, most academ professors placed items on their required reading list which could only be read there. That impeded view through the blinds is a very familiar one because I would oftentimes walk by Fondren to see which of my academic competitors were diligently working through their updated required reading lists.

Time to get those shoes re-soled.

I’m reasonably certain that this is the periodical reading room in Fondren which was located on the first floor in the southeast corner of the building. It was taken through a window in the cloister. When I was there in November this area was being remodeled.
