I wish the image were crisper, but I guess you can’t have everything.
This is a wonderful photo. At first I was entranced by the close-up view of Harris Gully being filled in, and I looked at that for a long time. Then I lifted my eyes up to towards the top and saw the old field house still standing and what I think is the Cullen building at Baylor College of Medicine. It wasn’t until I was finished looking at the old stadium that I noticed you can see the new gymnasium going up near the top left. (I was also quite interested to note that the intersection of Rice Boulevard and Greenbriar, which I struggle through every day, was already kind of messed up.)
And here’s a closer look at that gym construction, also sadly fuzzy but as far as I know the only such image, probably from August or September:

Post-war expansion! The place grew up almost overnight.
Speaking of the Cullen Building, the Alkek fountain was added in 1982. Here’s a picture for you of it being turned on.
