Only the sharpest eyed readers will have noticed that the 1957 picture in this recent post was not taken from the same angle as the 1916 picture. Carl Knapp took his shot looking downtown from the top of the campanile, which was a bit daring. But I was filled with joy when I saw where young David Davidson had been when he took his. It was atop the radio antenna at Abercrombie!
And unlike our other adventurers who climbed up there with a camera, Davidson took the trouble to use it to survey systematically the entire layout of campus. It is simply glorious. We’re going to go all the way around:
There’s just too much to talk about all at once so I’ll go back over these one at a time later. But wow, isn’t this wonderful?
Bonus: This is my 2000th post, something that I would not have believed possible when I began in 2010. (Here’s the first post, which explains the picture in the header. And this is the one that led me to really understand what I could do with this format.) I don’t know how many more posts I have in me, but I’m quite certain that it isn’t another 2000. So if you have any requests, arguments, scathing criticisms, or boxes of Rice stuff in your closet that you’ve been meaning to send me it’s probably better to get it sent or get it off your chest sooner rather than later. Also, I’m taking a couple of days off–be back Monday.

It looks like one might be able to stitch together these photos using Photoshop (or something similar) into a 360-degree panorama that would have very few gaps.
