I had a few spare minutes this afternoon so I did a little digging around to see what else I could find out about the 1930 Garden Party. After a minor panic, I believe I found what I was looking for and when I sort it all out I’ll write more about that lovely event. As I was going through photos from that era, I ran across this nice crisp image of a group of students engaged in some depressingly juvenile hazing behavior in one of the dorms. The only thing that redeems this scene for me is the fellow on the right calmly reading the comics, one of my own consolations in this vale of tears.
One other thing caught my eye: the banners commemorating Rice football victories hanging on the wall. We have a bunch of them in the Woodson (although it took three of us to figure out where they were this afternoon). Among them is one of those on the dorm wall above, the one made after our 1923 win over A&M. If my memory serves me, I took it off the door of Sports Information Director Chuck Pool’s office before the gym was renovated.
Bonus: Who knows where this is? Hint–it’s not the Graduate House.
