Doodle

If you knew Jim Kinsey at all, you knew he liked to doodle. He doodled through meetings, lectures, grad student presentations, anything at all where he could get away with using pen and paper. After his death, among his things I found several very orderly notebooks full of these doodles. I was only a little surprised that he kept them. I was very surprised, though, to discover that he labeled them with the name of the meeting he’d been in when he drew them.

Many of them are quite beautiful. All are careful geometric drawings. This is one of my favorites:

I was in that meeting. Jim seems to have taken more away from it than I did.

Bonus: I may have stumbled across the last vestige of the Shepherd School’s sojourn in Herman Brown Hall today.
