Rice Bids You Welcome, 1921

When I got back to campus this morning after my vacation, the first thing I saw was this nice banner. Some people might think it was meant for prospective students, but I’m almost sure it was really for me:

In any event, it reminded me of this drawing I ran across a while back. She was on the front of the first Thresher that came out in the fall of 1921–it’s kind of corny but I find that there’s also something weirdly compelling about it. She looks quite determined not to waste the opportunity:

The second thing I noticed as I walked through the Sallyport was this:

Which made me smile when I thought of this:

I seem to have reached the point where everything reminds me of something else.
