A Visit to Sid Rich, August 1970

One day in the late summer of 1970 the Sid Richardson Foundation sent a representative down to Rice to have a look at the progress of construction on the new dormitory that they had helped fund. A photographer came along on the visit. The first few pictures he took focused on the building, like so:

But very soon his attention turned to the foundation representative herself, an uncommonly graceful and attractive woman. In the end, it turns out that there are a dozen pictures of her looking at the building but precious few of the building itself.

She had lunch at Lovett College while she was here:

I believe her name was Elizabeth Ledyard and if her obituary in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram is any indication she was also an accomplished and lovely person besides being beautiful. I’m glad to have had the chance to meet her and I send my thanks out to the nameless photographer.
