Y’all, I’m having a wild day and it isn’t over yet so those tables in the library will have to wait. In the meantime, this: Someone was using a box of H.A. Wilson‘s papers the other day and when I saw it sitting on a cart in the back I headed right for it. Wilson, of course, was one of Rice’s original faculty members, our first professor of physics. Here he is, a serious and scholarly gentleman:
It’s fair, I think, to say that this was about the last thing I expected to see when I opened his box:
It turned out to be his daughter Joan’s high school scrapbook.
Bonus: The most interesting thing in the scrapbook was this photograph, which I believe is the sunken garden where Mecom Fountain is today.
