The trolley that ran between Eagle Avenue and the Institute was a source of near constant hilarity for the Rice students of the early era. Here are two cartoons on trolley themes. The first is probably better executed, but the second one actually made me laugh.
Rice Institute Class of 1956
I note in reading some of your early “diary” like entries, you mention ‘zooming in’ on the photos.
I did NOT have the capability to do that on those photos, but I have on others.
I have just began reading your material and am enjoying it hootingly.
Learned about you and it on our Class of 1956 website, as posted by webmaster Charles KOBERG.
Thanks so much for reading an commenting. It’s nice to know someone’s out there and I’m very glad I can amuse you! I’m having a lot of fun with this.
I freely admit that I don’t understand why sometimes folks can’t zoom in on some pictures but not others. Might just be a compatibility issue of some kind.
I tried zooming in on the two trolley cartoons. Even at max. zoom using Firefox latest Apple version, can’t read either caption.
Ugh. Sorry about that. Here’s what they say:
1. The poor Rice fish who waited for an Institute car
2. Dog gone it! There’s always a cow or a professor on the tracks!
I just noticed that these cartoons express the frustrations of both the trolley riders and the trolley conductors!
