Marvelous! The chapel is a wonderfully quirky place, and I’m thrilled to see the pipe organ being restored. Melissa, how about a story about the carillion? That’s another wonderful instrument that does not get the attention it deserves.
I cannot wait to hear performances on that device.
When Gordon College built their new chapel (my freshman and sophomore years, 1991-1993) they opted to go with an enormous electric organ rather than a pipe organ because the space was supposed to double as theater staging — which sadly turned out to be short sighted because expansion around campus made that need moot within less than ten years.
There is simply nothing like the physicality of pipe organ music and it is always wonderful to hear how different each piece can be.
Just realized you did a story on the carillon several months ago. Will it be reconnected to the organ during this rebuild? That would be a wonderful part of the restoration story.
