It was my first day back in the archives today and I’m trying to dig out. I have neither inspiration nor enough time to dredge any up, so apropos of nothing here is a photograph that I love but have no comment about (other than that I think it’s beautiful and I can’t remember where it came from). I’d guess it to be about 1950.
Well, ok, now that I look at it again I guess I do have a comment: I wonder where the photographer was standing. Anderson? Lower roof of Fondren?
Bonus: Apparently they tried to sneak this out over break, hoping I wouldn’t notice.
Melissa: Did the football scrapbook have anything on the ’58 Cotton Bowl, or was it too disheartening to record for posterity?

Wouldn’t it have to be from the roof of Fondren, otherwise you would be seeing Fondren?
I meant the Anderson that houses the School of Architecture today rather than the Biology one. Both that Anderson and Fondren were completed in the very late 1940s.
Yeah. That’s what I thought. I didn’t even consider the biology angle. But if it were from the top of the Anderson building you should be able to see some of Fondren at the right side (or at least it seems so to me).
You would see part of the quad if it was Anderson. Angle and all would indicate Fondren
Gotta be Fondren. It’s a lovely picture but the dorms look ratty. Apparently there was a lot of deferred maintenance for many years pre-and-post war.
I think it is from Fondren. The dorm towers wouldn’t overlap like that from Anderson. You’d see WRC peeking out from the left side of Baker, not the right side.
It was taken from the same elevation as the roofs of the towers, maybe slightly higher. Note that the peak of the WRC tower almost lines up with Baker and the WRC eaves are above Baker. You can’t get that shooting from below the tower elevation.
A surveyor could tell you the exact spot by lining up the Baker tower peak and the skyscraper window. Or maybe walk around Fondren peeking out of windows until it matches up…

The image quality is not that great but if you look closely it seems there is a lot of water on the road (or something else is causing the apparent reflection. I’d guess this is after a good rain

We really old timers know only “North, South, East, and West Halls”.
