I’m not suggesting that it’s folly, but I understand there’s going to be a football game against Texas A&M this weekend. This sort of thing has been going on for a very long time, although I think autograph scandals add a relatively new twist. Here’s a program from the first time we did this. Note that the game was played at West End Park, a bigger venue than Rice Field at the time.
There’s not much of interest inside, but I did enjoy this ad on the back cover.
Bonus: 1938. Look how well behaved the band was.

Having been a student when the band transformed into the MOB, I find the MOB much more entertaining if not so “we’ll behaved”.

I send my iPhone for the test! The manual typewriters we had in aught-69 had their own set of problems but RE-spelling what I typed wasn’t one of them. 😉

There are far too many bodies on the field in that photo to be the Rice Owl Band of 1938.
I’ve always been led to believe that the Rice Bands struggled until the late Sixties to even create a block of 96 without help.
I count about 160.

That might be the FTAB saluting the Owls, but it’s not the Rice Owl Band (unless there are a LOT of ringers).
Also, the 1938 A&M game was supposedly played in College Station, so it’s unlikely that Rice *traveled* with a huge number of ringers.
I guess that explains why they were well behaved!
