Was Brown coed by then or was this a general O-week beach visit? I remember a Galveston visit at the end of O-week for Hanszen in 1980, but I thought Brown didn’t go coed until a little later. I’m kinda surprised that I don’t recognize anyone in this pic, because I was here then.

    Still all-female in ’83.

Looks like the girls still wore mostly one-piece suits.

  4. Katherine Eggert says:

Marty, as of the early 80s (I don’t know about earlier) Brown imported male O-Week advisors from other colleges.

I wonder if this was a Wiess-Brown outing? I recognize Barry Nicholson, Kevin Payne and I believe Matt Prucka and they were all in Wiess in 1983. If it was the Spring semester then both would still have been single sex.

Brown was still single sex during my enrollment tenure Jones went co-ed in the 1980-81 aca-year.with Lovett Richards comprising most of the X-chromosome transfer balance. 1981-82 was the first fully integrated class.

Barry is/was ubiquitous. I’ll take the overs that the babe on the lawn (beach) chair behind the Bigass Sunglases is Scheleen nee’ Johnson, now the Sierra Club maestro for the SW USA, if memory serves.

The bozo upper left wearing the tighties (with something with a handle – no capeche) looks like me. Coulda used a trim….
