From the Elizabeth Baldwin Literary Society production of Bloomer Girl, circa 1961.
Nickel Beer would probably result in a plethora of Free Love.
One can only hope.
I find it interesting that a decade after that photo, you could still encounter “nickel beer” nights, and they were notable events indeed. Now you can’t even get the peanuts to go with your beer for a nickel.
Best of all were the “Foamer” nights at the Astrodome. Who remembers the puzzlement that Bob Watson (I think) experienced when he hit that first “Foamer” and the stands were emptying as he rounded the bases?
How ironic that Watson also scored the 1 millionth run in the majors.
Watson couldn’t fight though: I remember the night the little second baseman (for the Giants?) tattood him with the ball for going into second base standing on a double play ball. Watson did NOT know how to throw the punch, because he was a nice guy.
(See there, Melissa, I have a little memory let!
I have to go lie down now.)
“left”, NOT “let”.
