Up in the Air

I’m still pretty well under the weather today but I maintain high hopes for tomorrow.

This is a beautiful photograph that I found tucked behind some bigger things in an R Association box. I believe that’s Dave Roberts, which would make this the mid-70s and it must have been taken in the Astrodome:

Roy Hofheinz signed a 5-year deal for the U.S. Track & Field Federation’s Indoor Championships to be held in the Astrodome, beginning in 1969. A Milwaukee Journal sports writer said the inaugural meet would probably be “the greatest indoor track meet every held.” (https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1499&dat=19690122&id=tgMqAAAAIBAJ&sjid=HSgEAAAAIBAJ&pg=4386,669619&hl=en)

Dave Roberts was second in the 1971 meet’s pole vault competition at 16’6″ according to this thresher article: http://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth245100/m1/3/zoom/. (He surely competed in others, but I don’t have the time now to look them up.)
