Thanksgiving, 1927: “long years after these praising voices are silent”

In one of the boxes of the Cohen House collection is a guest register from the early years of operation. I knew it was there but I hadn’t looked at it closely until recently. What I learned was that while the official opening of the club was Friday, November 25, 1927, the evening before a private dinner was held for the Cohen family, their closest associates, and senior members of the Rice faculty. It was Thanksgiving day. Dr. Lovett spoke and his remarks are preserved in the same file:
