This sequence of photos from the Houston Post Collection (RGD0006N-1962-6086) was taken on November 12, 1962. How those rascals got Sammy in the first place I do not know but they certainly seem to be treating him with a great deal of care:
I’m not completely sure where they are in this last picture. Those pipes make me think that somewhere in the RMC basement might be a good guess but I don’t know how they could get that big owl down the stairs. Anybody?
All in all, though, a better result than the aftermath of the wild and wooly 1917 kidnapping, which I talked about here and here.
I think all the pictures are around the RMC. You can see the nameplate in the wall in the third picture. And the couch in the last picture looks just like the ones that used to live in the Grand Hall in the 1970’s.
I remember this incident. It was my Freshman year. I also remember the dog that was the Aggies’ mascot running out into midfield at halftime and dropping a load.
Melissa, did you ever find out what happened to that Sammy? There was the rumor that he was hidden in a basement somewhere.
Nancy, you probably don’t remember me. I was a friend of Bob’s.
GIG EM! 👍🏻 😉
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that Sammy. Band hall, maybe? Also, there’s an elevator in the RMC.
Pretty much all of the class of 1960, including those of us who had to spend five years back then pursuing a B. S., were gone by the fall of 1962, and look what happened when we were not around to protect poor Sammy!
