Arches

Last Friday’s post got me thinking about all the images I’ve seen that were taken through various campus arches. These arches are like catnip to photographers—I often frame things through them myself—and so there are all kinds of interesting ones. Here are a couple that I really like. The first one is very nearly Friday’s in reverse, a vanished view–Bonner Lab seen through a Sewall arch:

The second one is a charming picture of three rascals, which I assume must have been taken in 2003. If you look over their shoulders you can get a glimpse of my all-time favorite Rice Gallery art installation out in the courtyard. It was the work of noted architect Shigeru Ban and to me it looked like the frame of a beautiful boat, but it’s title was “Bamboo Roof.”

I somehow did something wrong when I scanned that one, so  you can’t zoom in on it for a good look. To make up for this I went and found a nice picture of the installation itself:

Bonus: Here is our always sensible General Counsel and his slightly more reckless colleague watching the installation. They both seem pleased.

Did you notice the Andrews sign leaning against the Sewall arch in the foreground?

    “…always sensible …”.
Here now, none of that “sensible” stuff.

  3. Rascals, indeed! Watch out for that one on the right! 😉
