    If it were much older than 50 years, it would say WRI, not WRU.

      Good point. By the time of the semi-centennial, the name change to University had already occurred (in 1960).

    Wonderful! I saw the interview as it was taking place yesterday and wondered what was up. Just read the wikipedia article about maces. Since the original Rice mace originated during the Semi-Centennial Celebration, maybe for the Centennial Celebration, Rice could establish a smaller mace for each school, or, perhaps each college. Hmmm. Probably too late for that to happen this year. Food for thought.
