Two things: it’s undated (’70s?) and I hope one of the images was flipped.

    “Rice” shirt and number shirt make me think the images are not flipped. 10-speeds imply mid-70s.

    The guy on the bicycle sporting the still-cool cap was Eddy Collins. The bemused baseball coach was the late great James Castaneda. Eddy graduated in 1977, so I’d say it’s the 76-77 timeframe.

    I was at that game. The streaker was a Hanszen resident. It was during the period of streaks and before the Baker 13 started. I am thinking it was either spring of ’73 or spring of ’74. 74 may be more likely since this streak was at the end of the mass epidemic

    That’s a rare image of the old baseball field. It’s stunning to see how close the fans were to the field and the players.

      I miss the bluff in right field at the UT stadium – it devloped additional skills for the right fielder.

        For the Historians among us:

        When the Rice freshman team played at U.Tex, probably in the Spring, 1953, Bill Trotter was playing left field, Carl (?) Ludwig right field and me center field when a Tea-sipper crushed one up onto the top of the hill — where the goats were grazing.
        As I ran toward that infamous hill, Bill Trotter commenced running UP a hill pathway at about left center field. He reached the top, found the ball and threw to me, now standing at the base of the hill. When I turned to throw, I think the hitter was heading to the U.T. bench to sit down. At least he did NOT get to trot around the bases because of our Trotter.
        The HILL at that time was in left center and center field, abutting** the fence.

        ** highly appropriate for this seamy streaking entry, methought.

    In March of 1974, about 15 of us struck the University of Texas baseball game during the height of the streaking season. We circled the bases and were there at least 5 or 6 minutes. The streakers consisted mainly of basketball players but there were several Weiss students mixed in. That streak is well documented in the yearbook and other publications. However, I don’t think this was the same streak. As Rick Miller pointed out, I believe this streaker is a Hanszen member, and he was a member of the rugby team. He did several streaks after streaking became passé in the spring of 1974, including a streak down the 50 yard line of Rice Stadium in the last minute of a football game. This baseball streak was either in the spring of 1974 or 1975 because the old Hanszen Commons which burned down in the summer of 1975 is in the photo. Only perverts streaked before 1974. After that we regular people could streak.

      I was a member of the Weiss Beer-Bike beer-drinking team, and we streaked a Rice-UT baseball game in the spring of 1974. I’m thinking we were not part of the group that Steve Lukingbeal is referring to, but I do remember that we jumped over the fence and ran the basepath from 3rd base to 2nd base to 1st base in the middle of the game! I also remember that we carried our shorts and t-shirts with us as we ran so some wise guy wouldn’t hide them before we got back to the old Weiss courtyard. (My Rice girlfriend was at the game with a high-school friend of hers – I’m sure the friend was very impressed!)

    In my day we streaked because our ONLY underwear shorts were lost the laundry and someone had also hidden our pants.
    Either that or Bush made us do it!

    It was spring 1974. See the 1974 Campanile, page 75, for another photo of the event. There were several streaking episodes that semester. This one was memorable because I was merely a spectator.
