“If you weren’t so damned apathetic you could get this rag banned,” 1966

Five years ago (!) I wrote a post here about a short-lived but entertaining Rice humor magazine called The Bird. We only had one issue and there was no way to know if any others had been produced. A while ago, though, a second issue found its way into the Woodson:

Note that this claims to be the sixth issue. Somehow I can’t shake the feeling that it isn’t really the sixth issue, that they maybe just said it was in order to mislead me. Because it strikes me that that’s the exact kind of thing this crew would find amusing. Still, if you have another issue please let me know.

A small piece of literary criticism it contained made me laugh:

Here’s a link to Greg’s bio.

Extra Bonus: I finished up in the storage sheds at the stadium today. It’s quite peaceful up there.

  1. Barney L. McCoy says:

The Bird was the creation of Bert Moser who has a dry, acid wit without equal. If you contact him, he can probably answer any question you might have about the publication. At the time Barney Giesen and I had a very exclusive club called the Barney Club. In support of more humor (make that some humor) on the Rice campus, we took out a cheap ad that said ” The Barneys give you the Bird”.

I have a faint memory of a multi-page story about Batbird and Sammy defeating the Scoh Pro who was turning all of Rice’s weanies into either troops or teasips.
