Two-fisted, 1949

A thoughtful reader brought us these two Rally Club mugs–only the second and third we have (click here for the first)–that he bought at a sale here in town:

Interestingly, they’re both dated 1949. The backs render them more interesting yet:

So off I went for a quick perusal of the Rally Club minute book:

wherein I learned that the only “Jack” on the rolls in 1949 was a lad named Jack Marshall, at right in the third row here:

He looks like a serious young fellow but I have to say that from the minutes it seems that “the principal activities of the Rally Club” had more to do with drinking beer than with anything else. I didn’t count how many of these were stuck between the pages:

Bonus: We’ve seen one of these mugs before, almost five and a half years ago in the Centennial Edition of Friday Afternoon Follies!

    Rally Rally!

Looks like Jack had a plan for his two mugs. He had one for himself and another in case he ran into a cute, thirsty girl.

  3. Chris Castellani says:

28 kegs of Bud? Was that for a single event?

I wonder who was NOT drinking that night, and whether any remedial measures were taken.
