This is picture is unidentified except for this bit on the back: “track sprint relay team.” So not only do we not know the date, we’re also in the dark about who they managed to get to wear those goofy uniform shirts:

An old track “Champions” booklet said Gingrich matriculated in 1976 and “was a five-time Southwest Conference champion. … (H)e broke the Rice and SWC record in the 800meters (and) in 1979, Gingrich anchored the sprint medley relay to a new world record with an 800-meter split of 1:44.8, which at that time was the No. 1 time in the world for ages 21 and younger.”

Steve Straub was track team coach during this time. Perhaps he can relate some of the history of these distinctive uniforms.
Hmmm. The very tight shorts, longish haircuts, and lengthy socks are clearly indicative of the 70s. So are the Med Center buildings in the background. My guess is that the picture was taken in the late 70s when neither you or I kept track of the individual athletes on the track team.

That is a Nike “pinwheel” logo. I searched and searched, then zoomed in and noticed it was a wheel made of Nike shwooshes. Crazy, man.

Mouton and Derrett were football teammates of mine – Derrett actually finished 6th in the NCAA 100 meters one year.
