Friday Afternoon Follies

Today, another Friends of Fondren edition. This time, I’m featuring the 1982 Casino Night held in the library. It looks like it was a particularly wild evening:

Public Dancing at the Reference Desk!

Baby needs a new pair of shoes! Looks like Dame Fortune was smiling down on the craps table.

This is Mrs. Martha Lovett, wife of Malcolm Lovett, Sr., former Chairman of the Rice Board and son of our first president.

Just for fun, here’s one from the 1997 gala. Former University Librarian Chuck Henry peers into a spyglass. What’s he looking at??

This 1982 casino night looks more like a 1962 casino night!

This is the library! We kick it old school.

I agree with Kathy. The 80’s have a lot to be accountable for (like all my wedding pictures with the big hair and the even bigger glasses O.O). These people all seem much too well dressed for anything with “Rice” and “the 80’s” in the same sentence. Unless, of course, any professors/grad school advisors or other “I hold your entire future in the palm of my hand” staff were in attendance. Then the guys usually added a tie to their t-shirts.
