This is a very early photo, I’d guess 1914 or 1915. I found it in the scrapbook of a 1916 grad and the band, which had been started on the initiative of my old friend W.T. Betts, had uniforms by 1916. There’s a certain Mob-like vibe, isn’t there?
Bonus:
The band: wow. The more things change the more they stay the same.
Bonus: I like “Rat Barn.”
That was my favorite part too.
The drummer’s cap is something else.
George Saunders, on the left, is sitting in on the bass drum – he’s playing an alto horn in the larger band picture in the 1916 Campanile.
