“I’m from . . . and I think Rice is . . . ” circa 2000

I’ve had a blue notebook sitting at the bottom of the pile by my chair for a long time. Things usually end up down there because I can’t figure out what to do with them and I’ve learned that if I just let them sit long enough it will eventually come to me. So I was going through the stack today, making good progress when I sat down and opened this notebook up.

It isn’t very often that I come across something more bonkers than my own daily calendar but here it was: several years worth of  guest book/log book entries from the Rice Welcome Center.

The real weirdness is to be found in the log book, which gives us a close look at the daily randomness of dealing with the public. It was a challenge to find a page that I could safely post. Here’s one of the tamer ones, which I still had to trim a bit. Having climbed the stairs to the 4th floor of Lovett too many times I got a kick out of the last entry:

Bonus: The Welcome Center very recently moved over to the old gallery space in Sewall Hall.
